A Very Grand Affair !!

Well I did it! I finally graduated with a Master’s Degree 🙂

Evelyn W was there too. We’ve both worked very hard over the last five years and we finally we got there!

It was ‘touch and go’ a few times for both of us, but we supported each other through the times of self doubt.

After the ceremony I met up with my sisters …… they obviously know me well!

The bottle of Champagne and the ‘sparkly’ mouse and mousemat present just about sums me up 🙂

  1. Hello Pam ….. Thank you – it WAS a wonderful feeling:) Good luck with your last hurdle – looking forward to hearing how you get on!

Hi Kim – thanks so much! As I’ve said many times before, I’m so grateful for your input – not sure I could have jumped that final hurdle otherwise 🙂

  2. Congratulations Margaret – you must feel a great sense of achievement. To complete a course such as this on top of the job we do is no mean feat. I enjoyed reading your dissertation – the students’ own perspective view on achievement was very interesting. I think the ‘no date’ Wenger paper in your lit review is from 1998 (communities of practice:learning, meaning and identity). It’s a particular ‘old friend’ of mine, this paper and for me anyway, was quite prophetic when you consider the on-line learning communities we establish through web 2.0 GLOW, etc.

I read your list of courses on another of your posts and noticed that you are hoping to investigate hand held voting systems…one of my research collaborators has just published on this with an interesting take on the priming effect of pre-questioning. I’m going to do some classroom research using these systems in the new year (I have two S1 classes following the same course – a great test-bed!) I can send you a copy of his paper if you’re interested. Just drop me an email on jrichards@cathkin.s-lanark.sch.uk and I can send you a copy..

  3. Hello Jaye – Thank you for your congratulations. I do feel ‘chuffed’ 🙂

Thanks, too, for the info about Wenger’s original paper – I stumbled upon his blog but there was no link to the original paper – hence the ‘no date’ reference. I’ve read lots of other Communities of Practice stuff (mostly Lave and Wenger).

Thanks for taking the time to read my dissertation – I learned so much about learning and teaching by taking a step back and having a close look at what was going on in my own situation.

I’ll take you up on the offer to receive a copy of the published research paper by your collaborator – I’ll email you 🙂
