Ragman Roll

February 9, 2009

As part of our topic we looked at the Ragman Roll.

We each had a character and we had to decide whether or not our character would sign the Ragman Roll.

Many people signed it as they felt their families would not be safe if they did not.

However, many people chose not to sign it as they felt this was betraying their country.

Would you have signed the Ragman Roll? If you did you were swearing loyalty and allegiance to King Edward I of England.

Congratulations Brogan and Callum!

Brogan and Callum recited their poems at out annual Burns’ Competition last week.

They were so good that they, along with children from the other stages, helped Carronshore win this year!

Death of King Alexander III Newspaper Reports

February 9, 2009

We have been writing reports on the death of King Alexander III. Here is Emma’s, she used a special programme to type it up. Emma wants to be a journalist, amongst other things, when she’s older. I think you’ll agree that she’s well on her way!

A little something for 5LW

February 7, 2009

We have been watching the snow out of our window hoping that it will come to something but Carronshore did not get much at all.

It was enough for some people to make snowmen though!

Here’s some snow for you and I hope you get lots of the real stuff over the holiday!

The Big Debate!

February 2, 2009

Should King Edward I rule Scotland or should they have their own King? We had a debate on this interesting topic last week.

We split into 2 teams – for Scotland and for England.

We had to research our debate so that we were able to argue with accurate information. Here’s a video to show how hard we worked!

Everyone came up with really great arguments! Here are some comments below!

For English Rule

“King Edward rules a bigger country so he has plenty practise!”

“King Edward manages more people so he could rule Scotland.”

“It makes sense to have an experienced King.”

For Scottish Rule

“Scotland is a separate country and deserves its own King.”

“King Edward chose John Balliol and we do not think this was the best person for the job.”

“King Edward is already fighting with France, will he not try to fight with us as well?”
