Life in Scotland 700 years ago!

January 27, 2009

Yesterday we started our new topic. Over the next term we will be learning about the Scottish Wars of Independence.

We have started this topic by thinking of what life was like in Scotland 700 years ago when these wars were happening.

Each group looked at a different subject and then made a poster. When we had finished our posters we presented them to the rest of the class. Here are our presentations.

Our Stories

January 8, 2009

Before the Christmas holidays we started to plan our stories. We thought really carefully about what we would need to do in order to write a really good story.

We decided that first of all we should get some characters. We each made our own character. We drew them and then thought of really good adjectives to describe then. We wanted to make sure we knew our characters like they were our best friends. Here are our characters-

Next we got into our writing groups and tried to think of a setting that could involve all four characters. These are the settings we made. We thought on good adjectives to describe these as well-

After we had all our characters and the setting we decided on a plot. Next we will begin to write our stories on our own. We will be posting the final drafts on our wikis!

Doing our bit for charity.

January 8, 2009

Over Christmas 5LW and 5S sold stamps. Each stamp cost 2p and if children in our school wanted to give out Christmas cards they needed to buy a stamp for each card. When the cards had a stamp on them they were put in the post box. Primary 3 then delivered them to the right people. We made £80 selling stamps!

We also designed baubles and sold them at the Christmas fayre and at the carol concert. We sold over 300! The money that we made selling baubles at the fayre went towards school funds but the money that we made at the carol concert was put in with our stamp money.

Altogether we raised over £200!!!

We gave the money to Primary 1 as they are raising money for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital. This is a picture of us handing over the cheque!
